INTERVIEW: John up for Lancashire derby

Manager wants to make it a 'Good Friday' for Stanley fans in Morecambe clash

It's a big game for John Doolan's first match in permanent charge of Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium as Lancashire rivals Morecambe are the visitors.

The Shrimps, under former Reds midfielder and coach Ged Brannan, are in 12th-place, four points above Stanley, but have lost their last four league encounters.

Stanley are looking to bounce back from their 3-1 loss at Sutton United last weekend and make it a good Good Friday for home fans in this highly-anticipated clash.

Doolan said: "I am looking forward to the Easter period, two quick games, and tomorrow it's a derby.

"I have been involved in derbies previously and form goes out the window. You can come in with the best form and after think 'what happened there?'

"They have had bad run of results recently and ours have been mixed but personally I want it to be a good game and go Accrington's way.

"The atmosphere adds something to the game, our fans are first class, especially the Clayton End with the flags, and it does add to it with the added spice it is a derby, with the bragging rights at stake."

Brannan left Stanley to become the Shrimps manager in November and also took academy coach David Fitzgerald as his assistant.

"It's mad to think six months ago we were in same car travelling in together, having a laugh, doing games together," continued Doolan.

"To come up against Ged and his team, it's a bit surreal, but I am sure we are both looking forward to the challenge.

"We have to attack and get at them and hopefully get a result for our fans.

"Ged wants the best for his team and I want best for our team.

"Ged is a good lad, he has a good manner on the touchline. I like to think I have myself - Ged will probably have a go at the fourth official more than me!

"Ged is a good coach, how he sets his team up, his results and he has proved he can step up to a first team environment and put a team on the pitch that the fans can be proud of and obviously he has got the results.

"Both of us are winners so we both want to win the game. I will be going all out to do that and it will be interesting to see how things play out."

Manchester United loan keeper Radek Vitek is back from international duty while frontman Matt Lowe has been at St George's Park as he recovers from a hip operation.
