Doolan previews trip to Stockport County

Accrington Stanley travel to League Two champions Stockport County tomorrow hoping to end The Hatters 12-game unbeaten streak.

County celebrated being crowned the best in the division on Tuesday night for a second promotion in three years.

They have won their last seven games and play their final game of a memorable season at Edgeley Park with the Reds the visitors on the penultimate weekend of the campaign.

John Doolan knows the threats Stockport pose but is hoping his Stanley side can chalk up a third win as manager since he took over in March.

Doolan said: "Stockport are champions for a reason, they have been up there all season and had an outstanding season.

"Dave Challinor has set the team up in different formations - back five, back four  - and they have been brilliant whichever way they go about it.

"They can play football, they can go down the sides, go through you. They are aggressive in both boxes, have talented players, and deserve to be champions.

"But you can score goals against them, they have conceded a few from set-plays.

"Most teams have weaknesses and you have got to find them and then it's down to lads to exploit them and get at them."

Looking back at his nine games in interim and full-time charge, Doolan said: "In terms of performances they have been a bit indifferent. We have had some good results away from home and a couple of draws at home against good sides.

"You would like to get the first home win but we have a chance against Tranmere on the last game of the season.

"It's been challenging, a good challenge, it's been good working with the players, there have been some good performances, some indifferent performances and good results and not-so good results."

Tommy Leigh has two goals in three games and Doolan added: "Confidence is everything, Tommy tries all the time, he gives 100 per cent, he is great in both boxes.

"There have been two similar goals, on the turn, and we know what were are getting with Tommy. He needs to keep working hard."

Doolan reports a clean bill of health from those in the squad from Tuesday night's loss at promoted Mansfield Town.
