INTERVIEW: Former Posh midfielder Ethan looks ahead to clash

Reds take on promotion challengers as they strive to get back on track

Ethan Hamilton picked up a League One promotion medal with tonight’s opponents Peterborough United but knows it’s all about a win for Accrington Stanley.

The midfielder was at Posh from 2020-21, making 42 appearances that season, before signing for the Reds.

He still has friends at the Weston Homes Stadium but the full focus is on getting Stanley back on track following three League One defeats.

“It’s another game to me but it will be nice to see some familiar faces,” said the 24-year-old.

“It was a positive season there, during Covid, getting promoted. There are a few different coaching staff and players but there are a few I know.

“However when the game kicks off, I will totally concentrating on trying to win it.”

The midfielder knows Saturday’s defeat to Bolton was disappointing – the Reds were 2-0 up but lost 3-2 – but with another big game in quick succession, he thinks it’s a good thing.

“We were frustrated after the game on Saturday but with a game on Tuesday it gives you an opportunity to bounce back.

“I think as soon as you have a game like that, where there is a turnaround in the second half, you want to get back and play a game as soon as possible.

“In the main, I feel like we are defending quite well but we have to do it for 90 minutes. We defend well in spells then lapses in concentration or a mistake and it only takes a second to concede a goal.

“We need to look at stuff and we will watch the video to try and get it right for the game tonight.

“It’s a team thing is defending, it’s not all on the defenders. In the first half on Saturday, I felt we limited Bolton and we defended really well, winning the headers and second balls, and it’s something we need to get back to tonight.

“Everyone is pulling in same direction for the same goal.

“These are games you look forward to and you tackle each as they come. The coaching staff come up with a game plan and it’s up to us to go out there and try and execute it and implement our style onto the game.”
