Details of our ceremony this weekend as Accrington remembers those who have passed away

5 November 2019

Accrington Stanley's annual Remembrance Day fixture will take place this Saturday afternoon at the Wham Stadium when the Reds welcome Crewe Alexandra in the Emirates FA Cup, 3pm kick-off.

Veterans of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will be the club's guests of honour at Saturday's game, includng a piper and a bugler.

The pre-match ceremony will begin with the piper leading the Royal British Legion Veterans and both teams out prior to kick-off.

Both teams will then line-up as per usual match day, before then lining-up around the centre circle with the match officials.

As the teams gather around the centre circle, the names of those who have passed away during the last 12 months will be read over the PA system and displayed on the big screen.

A poem dedicated to The Accrington Pals will then be read by the PA announcer, with both captains and the Royal British Legion all laying wreaths in the centre circle while this is taking place.

The Royal British Legion bugler will then play the Last Post, followed by a one-minute silence starting and ending on the referee's whistle to remember those who have passed away.

The piper will then lead the Royal British Legion Veterans off the pitch before the game commences.

If you have a relative or a friend who has passed away during the last 12 months and you would like their name to feature ahead of Saturday's game, then please contact our Commercial team before 12pm on Friday 8th November by emailing

As this Saturday will be the club's Remembrance fixture, big screen announcements will be free of charge, whereas they will be available from £25+VAT for any future games.
