Barclay: We've got big expectations

16 July 2019

Accrington Stanley defender Ben Barclay explained that himself and the rest of the squad have big expectations after joining the club this morning on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old, who has signed a one-year contract with Stanley, has been on trial with the club and he admitted that it feels good to get the deal sorted.

"It's good, I've been in the last couple of weeks, training with the boys and playing in a couple of games and that.

"I'm happy to finally get it all sorted and done and get ready for the season."

Barclay joined Notts County on loan in January earlier this year and he emphasised how much he has benefited from that loan move.

"In terms of playing, I didn't play a lot of games but I played some games in men's football for the first time.

"We were in a relegation battle so obviously I've learnt from that, something new which I've never had to deal with before so that was good."

When asked about the squad's expectations, the former Brighton & Hove Albion defender explained that they were high and that the squad wants to achieve this season.

"On a personal note just to come and play as many games as I can and do as well as I can.

"As a team I think we've got big expectations in terms of like wanting to come and perform and do well in front of the fans and give it our best efforts."
