Brown signs new deal

12 July 2018

Midfielder Scott Brown has signed a new one-year deal at Accrington Stanley.

Brown, 33, has been at Stanley since 2016 and played a big part in helping the Reds lift the League Two trophy last season.

He was one of the few players out of contract at the end of the 17/18 campaign but has put pen to paper on a new deal.

"I am made up to sign," said Brown. "Obviously, now we have got the chance to replicate what we did last year. It will be a lot harder in League One but you have got to be in it to win it.

"Last year was the best. We set our stall out at the start of the season to win the league, we had a few bad results in December but from Boxing Day we never looked back. We went through a range of emotions from getting promoted, to winning the league and the way we prepared for every game, we prepared properly and we had the belief."

Brown played in League One with Bristol City at the start of his career and knows it holds no fear.

"I know what it's all about, I've played in League One before and I believe I am still able to play there. It's a chance to shine, step up a league and test yourselves.

"We have kept the majority of the squad together and, although they are mostly young, they have had their experience of promotion.

"It will be bigger clubs, larger fan-bases, bigger stadiums but I think we will surprise a few teams."

Brown is looking forward to Saturday's pre-season friendly with Premier League Huddersfield Town at the Wham Stadium.

"It's a chance to stake a claim for a place as you want to be part of the team which kicks off against Gillingham in the first game of the League One season."

Manager John Coleman said: "Scott's a great player to have around the place, his enthusiasm is infectious on and off the pitch. He was keen to stay and I'm pleased he has signed."
