Connor Hall admitted he was ‘gutted' that his first league goal won't count – after Stanley's game with Sunderland was abandoned at 1-1 on 72 minutes due to the incessant rain.
Hall forced the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble in the 69th minute to cancel out Chris Maguire's controversial opener on 63 minutes – the Reds felt it was handled as he charged down Connor Ripley's goal kick.Referee Oliver Langford deemed the pitch unplayable as the heavens opened in the second half.
“It's gutting especially being a Newcastle fan as my dad is from there,” said 20-year-old Hall.
"It's one of those where I was hanging around the box waiting for my chance, it came and I toe-poked it in. Luke Charman had done well in the build-up and you have got to gamble on mistakes in weather like this.
“I think Sean McConville was claiming his effort had gone over in the scramble but I forced it over – not that it matters now!
“Once the ball went in it was one of the best feelings of my life.
“When you're a kid you dream of scoring your first league goal – and mine was in front of a record crowd and against Sunderland - and I thought I had come on and done well and deserved a goal.
“It was buzzing then about five minutes after that I thought just my luck it would be called off.
“It was tough conditions, the last play was me trying to dribble the ball and it got stuck under my feet so it's a tricky one.
“It won't count on the stats – but it counts for me! I will just have to score against in the re-arranged game."
