PREVIEW | Mansfield (A)

14 August 2018

Accrington Stanley visit the One Call Stadium tonight to take on Mansfield Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup, 7.45pm kick-off.

The Reds recorded their first three points in League One last Saturday, beating Bristol Rovers 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium, but attention now turns to Round One action against the Stags.

This will be Stanley's first ever League Cup match against a side from a lower division, with all previous games in the competition coming when the Reds were a League Two side.

John Coleman's side beat celebrated a 3-2 home win over Preston North End at this stage of the competition last season, Billy Kee scoring in second half added time to see the Reds progress.

Mansfield are winless in their last 13 matches against Stanley, drawing three and losing ten, however the Stags' only victory over the Reds in 15 previous meetings came in a cup competition - Mansfield winning 1-0 in the FA Cup first round in the 2006/07 season.

The Stags have lost their last seven League Cup matches in a row since they beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 away from home in August 2006.

Mansfield boss David Flitcroft faced John Coleman's outfit twice in League Two last season, losing both with Swindon Town in February and then Mansfield in March.

Stanley fans will be able to purchase match tickets from the programme booth at the away end of the stadium, using cash only and priced as follows:

Team News

John Coleman said in his pre-match press conference that he might rotate his squad this evening, and give game time to those players who have yet to see action this season.

The Reds boss is waiting on the fitness of Erico Sousa, who has a thigh injury.

Stags' manager David Flitcroft has also suggested that he will use the opportunity to change his starting XI.

“Potentially, yes [we will change the lineup]," he told Mansfield's website. "It's a tough travel down to Yeovil and it was a long way to go.

Defenders David Mirfin and Zander Diamond will miss out as they continue their recoveries from long-term knee and back injuries, respectively.
