Let's make history: Coley

John Coleman admits he can't quite believe the run Stanley have been on which has propelled them to the top of League Two.

When Stanley lost to Carlisle on Boxing Day they slipped to ninth in the league, 14 points off table topping Luton.

However they have been on a fantastic run since then – with 14 wins in the last 16 games – and now they are 11 points clear of fourth place.

The Reds travel to play-off chasing Colchester on Saturday looking to extend that run.

“I don't quite believe that we have won so many games in such a short space of time,” said Coleman.

“I always believe we can win every game we play and that we would be in the top ranks of the league but it has been a fantastic run.

“We have been working hard to trying to achieve promotion but we haven't achieved anything yet.

“We are not getting ahead of ourselves, there is a massive month ahead, but these players have the chance to make history, to do something special, which will be talked about for years to come.”

Stanley have won their last two games 1-0 and, while Coleman will take any win, he admits it doesn't work for his heart.

“I would obviously rather we were more comfortable, then I could relax a little,” said Coleman. “Notts County had a couple of chances and hit the underside of the bar - on another day they could have gone in.

“But we are streetwise, we are learning how to see games out. That's not really pleasing for me as I would like us to score more goals to make games easier but I will take 1-0s. If you win the majority of your games 1-0, you win the league!”
