Accrington Stanley continued their strong record at the Wham Stadium but had to do it with ten-men against Charlton Athletic.

The Reds made it nine games unbeaten at home with goals from Rosaire Longelo and Tommy Leigh before the break but Leigh saw red on 63 minutes.

John Coleman made five changes from the team which lost 4-0 to Portsmouth last weekend, bringing Harry Pell, Liam Coyle, Tommy Leigh, Longelo and Kody Adedoyin into the starting XI.

Elliot Lee had a great chance for Charlton in the first minute, forcing Toby Savin into a diving save.

At the other end, Addicks keeper Craig MacGillivray had to dive low to keep out Adedoyin’s strike while a Sean McConville free kick was headed just wide by Ross Sykes.

Liam Coyle blasted over and Adedoyin headed over as Stanley looked for the opener.

However it was Charlton who took the lead on 18 minutes when Coyle was judged to have handled in the area with referee Simon Mather pointing to the spot.

Former Red loan striker Jayden Stockley took the spot kick and, though Savin guessed the right way, the ball tucked under his body.

Stanley equalised on 28 minutes when McConville’s free kick was put back into the danger area by Michael Nottingham and then there were headers from Colby Bishop, Pell, Harvey Rodgers and a shot from Adedoyin in a goalmouth scramble before Longelo got the final header for his first Stanley goal.

Stanley took the lead on 32 minutes with a superb solo effort. A long ball forward was headed back by Bishop to Leigh and he made space on the edge of the area and rifled the ball into the back of the net.

Pell headed wide before half-time as Stanley looked to increase their lead.

Ben Purrington had a strike from a tight angle saved by Savin after the re-start while Jonathan Leko broke and his effort was cleared by Rodgers.

Sykes came close to adding to the Reds’ tally on 56 minutes but his downward header from Pell’s cross was cleared off the line.

Stanley were reduced to ten-men on 63 minutes when Leigh saw red after he jumped with former Accrington loanee Sean Clare and the referee judged that the goalscorer had used an elbow.

Straight after Adedoyin raced through but fired just wide of goal while Charlton appealed for a penalty on 68 minutes for another handball but referee Mather waved away the pleas.

Coleman put on Seamus Conneely and Yeboah Amankwah to boost his backline in the latter stages as the Reds held out for the win, despite Charlton's Conor Washington having a ‘goal’ ruled out for handball on 90 minutes.
