Phil Edwards returned to the club this summer eight years after he departed.

Phil Edwards first came to Stanley from Wigan Athletic, initially on loan but then signing permanently in January 2006.

The defender helped the Reds win the National Conference title that year, and spent five years with the club, helping them to the Play-Offs in 2011, before losing in the Semi-Finals to Stevenage.

Edwards moved to Stevenage and then switched to Rochdale, initially on loan and then permanently, linking up with John Coleman again, the then Dale boss.

He then moved to Burton Albion as they were promoted from League Two to the Championship in successive seasons but then went on loan to Oxford United.

Edwards then switched to Bury in 2017 before signing for the Reds at the start of the 2019/20 season, linking up with Coleman for the third time.
