Accrington Stanley winger Shaun Whalley has today signed a new one-year contract with the club.
Whalley, who returned to East Lancashire in July 2022, played 36 times in Sky Bet League Two last season and contributed to 13 goals, scoring in the wins over Newport, Salford, Grimsby, and Milton Keynes Dons.
Across his two spells as a Red, the 36-year-old has made a total of 150 appearances and found the net on 18 occasions, with the winger also named as John Doolan's captain for six league fixtures since March '24.
Whalley’s new contract will keep him at the Wham Stadium until the summer of 2025.
John Doolan said: "Shaun had a little bit of an injury, but he's come back really strong.
"He looks after himself off the pitch and the evidence when he goes on it is there for everyone to see.
"His performances have been really good towards the end of the season, and the goals that he's scored as well, so it's fantastic to see."
Shaun added: "I am made up as, obviously, I wanted to stay. The club has been good for me. It's been nice to be appreciated by the manager, the Board, and the fans; it's a nice feeling to be appreciated.
"I spoke to John Doolan at the end of the season and I know he wanted to keep me, so I jumped at the chance.
"The first time I was at Accrington, it did not go the way I wanted it to, but the last couple of years, while the club hasn't done the best, I feel personally I have done quite well.
"I know I need to be even better next season and get us up the table."
The extension is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
