INTERVIEW: John ready for Crewe challenge

Penultimate home game for Stanley of the 2023/24 season

5 April 2024

John Doolan is looking forward to the challenge as Play-Off hopefuls Crewe Alexandra make the trip to the Wham Stadium tomorrow.

Both sides have one win in their last five games and The Alex are looking to get back to winning ways to cement their place in the top six.

Stanley need to bounce back after two losses but they had their game postponed on Monday at Mansfield.

It's Stanley's penultimate home game of the current League Two campaign.

Doolan said: "Crewe are a good side. We had a good game at their place with a 3-3 draw.

"They had a man sent off late on, we scored two late goals and then they scored the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.

"They pass the ball well, they are in the Play-Offs for a reason, and they are good on the eye.

"It's a tough challenge and we will see what that challenge brings.

"We have had decent results against big teams. In terms of form, theirs is indifferent like ours, one win in five, and it will be a challenge for both of us.

"If we can get the first goal we will see where it takes us, especially with the home fans behind us."

While Doolan is concentrating on getting the win to take Stanley towards the top half of the table, he also has one eye on next season.

"I want to put the strongest possible team out and, at the same time, it's a chance to look at the younger lads, and the ones coming back from injury.

"It does involve some planning for next season. The lads are trying hard, giving their best and we are giving the younger lads a chance. It's a chance to have a look at different things.

"On the positive, Matt Lowe is the next one to come back from injury while Jay Rich-Baghuelou and Rosaire Longelo have been at St George's Park this week, running on the grass, so we are looking strong."
