SIGNING: Ben's a Red

Midfielder Ben Woods joins the Reds from Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a one-year contract

Accrington Stanley have today completed the permanent signing of midfielder Ben Woods from Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a one-year contract.

Born in Wigan; Woods is a product of Manchester United's youth system and left Old Trafford for Burnley in 2018, with the midfielder then penning his first professional contract at Turf Moor in the summer of 2021.

Having played 29 times in Premier League 2, the 20-year-old departed The Clarets a year later and agreed a short-term deal with Caley Thistle in January; making a total of seven appearances for Billy Dodds' side.

Woods' contract will keep him at the Wham Stadium until the summer of 2024.

John Coleman said: "Ben has done well, he fits the bill of someone we can work with. He has come through the academies, tried his luck in Scotland, and wants to be closer to home.

"He has the right type of attitude, the right level of ability we want in players, and has a great left foot. He is tenacious, a good midfielder, and we are hoping he can have the same impact that Liam Coyle has had."

Ben added: "I am buzzing, I am over the moon. It's a great chance, a great club, and a chance to get my football career off to a roll.

"I have been on trial for a few weeks, I was getting good feedback, and the gaffer said he wanted to do something and I can't wait to get going.

"I said at the start of this year, I want to get into the EFL and show everyone what I can do.

"It's a long season and the club had the disappointment of going down last year, but hopefully we will be up there at the end of the season and we will all pulling together to do that.

"I have watched a few games now and I can't wait to run out here. I did play for Burnley against Accy here and scored, so hopefully I can do that for Accy now."

A full interview video with Ben will be uploaded to the club's official YouTube channel later this month, CLICK HERE to find out more!

The move is subject to FIFA, EFL, English FA and Scottish FA ratification.
