SIGNING: Josh joins on loan

Striker Josh Andrews joins the Reds from Birmingham City on a season-long loan

Accrington Stanley have today completed the signing of striker Josh Andrews from Birmingham City on a season-long loan.

Born in Solihull; Andrews joined the Blues as a seven-year-old and progressed through various age groups at St Andrew's, with the 21-year-old then signing a two-year professional contract in the summer of 2020.

The 6'5" striker, who has previously had loan spells in Sky Bet League Two at Harrogate Town, Rochdale and Doncaster Rovers, scored five goals during his time at the Crown Oil Arena; with all coming from open play.

John Coleman said: "Josh is someone we have looked at for a while, he went to Doncaster last year. He fits the profile of what we need which is a target man.

"I know he is dedicated to the game, he has worked ever so hard, after an injury last season, to get himself in and around the first team at Birmingham. This is an opportunity for him to catapult himself into first team reckoning so hopefully he can have a good season with us."

Josh added: "This is my fourth loan, I am familiar with the league and I have learnt this is a much more physical league to Under-23s football, people's jobs are on the line. In 23s football, it's all nice and about development. In men's football, it's about winning and those three points at the weekend or on a Tuesday.

"Last season wasn't how I wanted it to go, I was injured, but I have come back stronger and I am ready to take on the challenge again this season.

"I am tall and it's a blessing as it means I am physical and I can deal with the physicality in League Two but you don't want to stereotype it as if you become just that, you limit yourself. If I can have the physicality, with the technique, with the pace you become such a better player. If i can combine all that I can show I can play in the higher league.

"There is pressure as a goalscorer but there is pressure in every position. If you back yourself and feel comfortable in the position you play and have self-confidence and self-belief you can do it. I believe in myself that I can be the striker I want to be and score goals.

"You always want to be better than you were yesterday, that's one of my sayings.

"In League Two now, we have the potential to have a great season that will go down in the history of the club and make it a memorable season."

A full interview video with Josh will be uploaded to the club's official YouTube channel later today, CLICK HERE to find out more!

The move is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
