Accrington Stanley midfielder Lewis Trickett has today signed his first professional contract with the club.

Trickett, who made a total of 56 appearances for the Under-18s, scored 18 goals across 2021/22 and 2022/23, including the extra-time FA Youth Cup winner against Swansea City in December 2021.

The 18-year-old was rewarded with his first team debut as a substitute in October and is also a Northern Ireland youth international, representing the Green and White Army as both an Under-18 and Under-19.

John Coleman said: "Tricky by name, tricky by nature. Lewis needs to get a little bit stronger and we will work on that, especially with the strength and conditioning coach (Chris) Scholesy.

"He has undoubted talent, he can score goals and he has shown that numerous times for the youth team and the 23s."

Academy Manager, Duncan Fearnhead added: "A skilful wide player from Accrington, Lewis joined the Academy at the age of ten.

"He has shown promise, performing well in the FA Youth Cup, which included creating goals in each game and scoring against Wigan Athletic and the winner against Swansea City, and has made appearances for Northern Ireland Under-18 and Under-19 teams, scoring on his international debut.

"We continue to support his development and hope he can make an impact in the first team in the future."

Lewis said: "It's a good feeling, when you join the club it's what you work for and to get it is very good and a nice feeling.

"Pre-season has been tough, but I'm settling in and it's where I want to be to continue learning and improving.

"I had a taste of first team football in the EFL Trophy and I want more this season, every day in training that's what I'll be working for."

The one-year contract is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
