NEW CONTRACT: Alex signs first pro deal

Midfielder Alex Henderson signs his first professional contract with the Reds

20 July 2023

Accrington Stanley midfielder Alex Henderson has today signed his first professional contract with the club.

Henderson, who made a total of 43 appearances for the Under-18s, scored five goals across 2021/22 and 2022/23, and also had a loan spell with Colne.

The 18-year-old was rewarded with his Under-23s debut as a substitute in April and has featured in this summer's pre-season friendlies at home to Blackburn Rovers and Clitheroe.

John Coleman said: "Alex has done really well with the youth team, stepped up to the 23s and been very impressive.

"The couple of games he has come on so far in pre-season he has looked the part and we are pleased we have got him over the line."

Academy Manager, Duncan Fearnhead added: "A versatile player with ability in multiple positions including midfield, centre-back, and full-back; Alex is a local player and holds a strong affinity for the club, regularly attending away games as a fan.

"Throughout his time with us, Alex has shown consistent high-level performances, showcasing his potential to make the step up to play for the first team in the EFL."

Alex said: "It's amazing and a childhood dream, I've always dreamt about making it pro and I've finally done it; so it's just kicking on now.

"Pre-season has been tough, down at the beach, but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

"The gaffer is very positive about the youth and as we saw in the Clitheroe game, a lot of the youth team players are getting a chance."

The one-year contract is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
