Seb Quirk had a taste of competitive football playing in the Papa Johns Trophy for Everton Under-21s and now wants more after signing a permanent deal with Accrington Stanley.
The midfielder was with Everton from age 11, but has just signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds.
"I am buzzing, it’s a good club to come to and there are a lot of Scousers here!" said the 21-year-old Liverpool-born player.
"It’s exciting to sign a permanent deal, to come out to league footy and try and prove myself and make myself better.
"I have been at Everton 11 years, it’s a really good club, good people, I made good memories and I have good mates there.
"I had a good first half of the season at Everton for the 23s, I had a good run of games, I was injury free and I feel physically ready now.
"When I was at Everton, I played in the Papa Johns Trophy against league teams, they were the best games with fans around you. They were properly intense and makes you want to do it every week.
"It helped my development as now I feel like I am ready for it, I have already played against those teams who are physically stronger and it was all good experience.
"I am ready for this weekend but it’s obviously up to the manager."
Quirk will easily settle into life at Stanley as two of his former Everton team-mates are alongside him.
"I know Ryan Astley, on loan from Everton, he is in my age group and I have known him for years and Korede Adedoyin was in the year above so they will help me settle in.
"I spoke to Ry quite a bit before I signed. He is one of my good mates and he had nothing but positive things to say, there didn’t seem anything wrong. He said he loves it so I thought ‘why not?’"
