Accrington Stanley defender Michael Nottingham and Accrington Stanley Women forward Sanah Mehdi have today signed code of conducts and agreed to become #HerGameToo player advocates.
The Reds joined a number of clubs from the EFL and beyond to commit to the cause, creating further awareness to the problems faced in football by females.
#HerGameToo was founded by 12 passionate female football fans who are committed to growing the campaign with the aim of fostering an ethos in football in which women are welcomed and respected equally.
The non-profit organisation aims to create awareness, educate, research, develop a strong sense of community and create strong relationships with clubs, among much more.
Further aims include:
- Creating regular content to champion women in football (players, staff and fans).
- Creating strong relationships with club trusts and communities.
- Having a presence at football grounds and sports bars to build a more welcoming environment for young girls and women.
- Continuing to campaign against sexism in football and online abuse.
Nottingham said: "I am happy to be involved with #HerGameToo because it's important that everybody feels that they can be involved in football.
"My nieces have played football for a long time and I'd like to think that I've helped to inspire them.
"Nobody should feel out of place or have any fear to get involved. That's definitely the message I want to get across to my nieces and their friends.
"When the offer came, I felt that I'd be the right person to do it because it's something that I do feel is close to me."
Mehdi added: "#HerGameToo is an important campaign for women to feel safe and included in football, irrespective of their race, gender and beliefs.
"For me, I believe it is an excellent opportunity to make girls from different backgrounds and cultures feel welcome, learn and embrace each other whilst playing football.
"Being a British Muslim from a Pakistani heritage can be challenging. The respect and support shown to me by Accrington Stanley Women's team, staff and supporters has been heart-warming and has allowed me to feel comfortable and enjoy playing football.
"I am happy to be a player advocate for #HerGameToo and aim to inspire girls from all backgrounds, races and religions to play football."
Saturday's fixture against Bristol Rovers will be the club's designated #HerGameToo game, with players set to wear warm-up t-shirts to raise awareness of the campaign; pin badges will also be available to purchase.
