SIGNING: Joe joins on loan

Goalkeeper Joe Walsh joins the Reds from Queens Park Rangers on a seven-day emergency loan

7 December 2023

Accrington Stanley have today completed the signing of goalkeeper Joe Walsh from Queens Park Rangers on a seven-day emergency loan.

Born in Medway; Walsh is a product of Gillingham's youth system and signed his first professional contract in May 2019, before making eight first team appearances for The Gills and a January 2021 move to QPR.

Loan spells at Hampton & Richmond, Dorking Wanderers, and Maidenhead United followed in 2022/23; with the 21-year-old then making his Hoops debut as a half-time substitute in this season's Carabao Cup.

John Coleman said: "It's a challenge, but we are used to having to do things like this. We had a lot of goalkeepers on our radar in the summer.

"We are restricted by the fact we can't loan Premier League players, so we have to go into the EFL.

"He comes with good references, we have seen him play. It's a big opportunity for the lad himself and for us to go and win a game on Saturday. He knows what he is going into, he isn't a complete rookie."

Joe added: "For goalies, you just have to be ready. If you haven't played a game in a while, when you get an opportunity like this, you have to go and take it.

"Life changes so quickly. You can't plan week to week, you have to go day to day.

"I am excited just to have this opportunity. I am so grateful to get games, experience, push myself, and mentally go in strong and play some games in League Two."

A full interview video with Joe will be uploaded to the club's official YouTube channel later this week, CLICK HERE to find out more!

The move is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
