INTERVIEW: Coley looks ahead to Owls clash

Striker Adedoyin back in frame against his former club

John Coleman is hoping to have striker Kody Adedoyin back in the squad for Saturday’s League One clash with promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker, who signed for the Reds from the Owls in January, has scored two goals this season but has been out since September 3rd with an injury.

With the Reds light going forward, Adedoyin’s return to action is a big boost – with Touray Sisay also scoring in the Under 23s 3-3 draw with Blackpool on Wednesday as he battles for a first team spot.

“Both scored really good goals and hopefully they can build on that confidence-wise,” said Coleman.

“Kody is a good player, we see him every day in training, he can go anywhere he wants.

“I have seen the success Mallik Wilks has, who we come up against on Saturday, and Kody has got to go in that type of direction to have a successful career.

“You have to have a good season and this is Kody’s chance, he needs to steer clear of injuries and start scoring goals.

“The goal he scored in the Under 23s this week was hit with such force and accuracy that you are not saving them and that’s a little bit what we have been missing this season.

“Touray has got to start threatening for a first team place. He didn’t mean to get injured when he first arrived but it was a massive setback him being out for so long and he has to get back to the form he showed in pre-season and hopefully that goal will give him the confidence to do that.”

Sheffield Wednesday are third in League One with just one league defeat in their last 11 games. They have former Reds Josh Windass, Michael Ihiekwe, Mallik Wilks and Michael Smith among their number.

“Sheffield Wednesday are a very good side. I have a lot of respect for their manager Darren Moore,” continued Coleman.

“He is one of football’s true gentlemen. He has a great knowledge of the game, a great manner about him and he has assembled a healthy squad there.

“I love watching them play, I have watched them three or four times and they are a very good side.

“Darren will be disappointed they aren’t higher up the table, whether that’s because of bad luck or injuries, but I know he has high standards and they have the capability to go on a good run at this league.

“However, we have to believe. In the big games here our crowd definitely turn up and we have to make sure we are as enthusiastic as our crowd will be on Saturday.”
