WELCOME: Matt Lowe is Stanley's second summer signing

Forward pens a two-year deal with the Reds

15 June 2022

Accrington Stanley have made their second summer signing in forward Matt Lowe.

The 26-year-old has played in the National League North for Brackley Town for the last six years after starting his career at Coventry Academy before moving to Cambridge United between the ages of 16-19.

He went on loan to Brackley while with Cambridge and then signed for them permanently on his release.

He went to university, studying sports science, and trained to be a teacher while playing part-time for Brackley.

Lowe has won the FA Trophy at Wembley in 2018 and scored 15 goals in all competitions last season while with the Saints, with his contract ending this summer.

John Coleman has been monitoring him and he has put to pen to paper on a two-year deal with a year's option.

Coleman said: "He is someone we have been looking at for a while and we enquired about him in January but I think their manager wanted to keep him for their promotion push.

"He is not a kid, he is a man who has played a lot of football and hopefully he can kick start his career with us.

"Matt scores goals, he can play anywhere across the front, he works hard and he is keen to do well."

Lowe said: "It's perfect timing for me. I have had a great six years with Brackley, they have been brilliant for me and developed me and now I am looking forward to a new chapter.

"I look at the Accrington team and Michael Nottingham, David Morgan and Colby Bishop were all really good players in non league.

"We are all 'made in non-league' and I think that gives us an advantage as we have come with nothing. We have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

"I set myself individual goals every season of double figures of goals and assists and I have done that for the last four seasons so hopefully I can do it again and help the team.

"I want to play, enjoy my football and see what happens."

The contract is subject to EFL and FA approval.
