NEW CONTRACT: Louis signs first pro deal

Goalkeeper Louis Hood signs his first professional contract with the Reds

30 June 2022

Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Louis Hood has today signed his first professional contract with the club.

Hood, who made a total of 13 appearances for the Under-18s, helped John Miles' side reach the fourth round of last season's FA Youth Cup and also had loan spells with Stalybridge Celtic and Darwen.

The 18-year-old was rewarded with his Under-23s debut as a substitute in January and has twice been named on the first team bench; at home to Gillingham and away at AFC Wimbledon.

Manager John Coleman said: "Louis has come through the ranks and this is the next step for him.

"Hopefully he can develop in the same mould as Toby Savin."

Academy Manager Duncan Fearnhead added: "Louis is a player that we know has had big potential ever since he joined us a few years ago.

"He's had some big performances over the years and follows Academy goalkeepers Toby Savin and Liam Isherwood in having progressed to the first team environment.

"Hopefully being exposed to that environment on a daily basis will allow him to learn and develop.

"We're all hoping he takes the opportunity with both hands."

Louis said: "I've been waiting for this day since signing my scholarship. I'm very happy that it's now sorted and I'm ready to start again this season.

"Being on the bench last year was a great opportunity and training with the first team is now showing me what level I need to be at.

"Toby Savin and Liam Isherwood have both come through the Academy which shows that the manager will put his trust in young goalkeepers to perform, so I'm just hoping to do the same."

The one-year contract is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
