Accrington Stanley have today completed the signing of defender Doug Tharme from Blackpool on a season-long loan.
Born in Birkenhead, Tharme turned professional with Wrexham in July 2018 and made seven first team appearances for The Dragons.
Following moves to Curzon Ashton and Connah's Quay Nomads, he then signed for Southport ahead of their 2021/22 National League North campaign.
The 22-year-old, who joined Blackpool in February, was immediately loaned back to The Sandgrounders and played a total of 32 league games for Liam Watson's side.
John Coleman said: "I have been trying to get him early on in the summer but unfortunately he got a little bit of an injury so that derailed that for a bit.
"I was interested in trying to take him on a permanent deal but Blackpool came up with the money we couldn’t and it’s a move to the Championship as well so I can understand that.
"He is level-headed, he has got an unbelievable attitude, he is keen to do well and he is not taking anything for granted.
"He is a good defender and he is a handful in both boxes. He wants to compete and ticks all the boxes for what makes a good defender for Accrington and hopefully we will see the best of him this year."
Tharme added: "The last six months have been a bit of a whirlwind for me, playing for Southport to signing for Blackpool in January.
"I always knew I would go out on loan and this move to Accrington has been going on for a little while.
"There has been a delay due to a slight injury but every conversation has been positive and I am looking forward to it now.
"Everything I have heard about the team is positive - a great set of lads, great staff, great culture and everyone works hard and, if you work hard, there is always that belief special things can happen."
