INTERVIEW: Seamus hoping to turn draws into wins

Conneely expects a tough test against Exeter

25 August 2022

After making his first start of the season in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Milton Keynes Dons, Seamus Conneely is keen to turn one point into three when the Reds host Exeter City on Saturday.

Here are the highlights from Seamus' pre-match interview:

Seamus on the unbeaten league start...

"Obviously we're pleased to be unbeaten, we feel like we've left a couple of points out there at least.

"We thought we could've got three points against MK Dons, we felt like we played well in the first half and were unlucky to come in behind but these things happen. We didn't score, they did, and we showed good character in the second half to get something out of the game.

"It's nice to be unbeaten, but we feel like we could be at least a couple of points better off."

Seamus on Harry Pell...

"It's a shame to see him leave, I got on very well with Harry and he was my roommate. He was a big character and scored goals for us as well in important games, I remember Charlton away last year and Ipswich here at home, he scored the winner in that game.

"We do have a lot of players in midfield, so I know that that's an area that the manager knows he's got a lot of options in. I think he spoke to Harry and Harry was happy to look elsewhere. I wish him all the best, I really enjoyed his time here and I'll follow his career now at Wimbledon and hope he does well.

"It's football, I've been here a long time now, one of the longest-serving players, and I've seen lots of players come and go. You build relationships with players, they become friends and you spend time with them outside of football, but that's part of the job. Players come and go and you just need to move with the times."

Seamus on starting against MK Dons...

"I want to play. I think in my first season I played 51 games, but I'm not going to be able to do that anymore.

"It's a really good squad that we've got here and I want to be part of it, I want to help. I want to see this team move up the league, I think we can do something special this year with the players we have."

Seamus on Exeter...

"I expect a tough game, I expect them to play football. Exeter teams that we've played in the past have always liked to play in a certain way, so I don't expect that to be any different.

"I'd hope that we can play the game on our terms and play the game that we want to play, take the game to them and play it in their half because that's the key to our success for winning games."
