DEPARTURE: Pell joins AFC Wimbledon

Midfielder Harry Pell has today joined AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee

24 August 2022

Accrington Stanley can today confirm that midfielder Harry Pell has joined AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old, who arrived at the Wham Stadium in May 2021, made a total of 43 appearances for the Reds and contributed to 14 goals.

Having grabbed the winner in October's 2-1 home victory over Ipswich Town, the midfielder then scored twice against Charlton Athletic later that month to secure a memorable 3-2 win at The Valley.

Pell said: "It's very rare that you would cut your contract short by two years and leave on good terms.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working under the gaffer, Jimmy Bell and John Doolan; I think they're very, very good people and one thing I must respect the gaffer for is his honesty.

"When I first walked through the door, I told him that I'd run through a brick wall for him and all that I asked of in return was for him to be honest.

"Pre-season came and we had a really good conversation and felt that there would be a possibility for me to move on.

"Accy have got some really good young lads coming through and there's a lot of numbers as well, and I want to play every game.

"I don't hold any regrets whatsoever, I would do the same thing by joining Accrington again if I could rewind a year and I think for both parties, it was a success.

"I'm quite happy about that and I can walk away with my head held high. Thank you to the fans, they were very, very good with me.

"I'd like to think that they knew exactly what they were getting whenever I stepped onto the pitch and they've supported me and they support the team fantastically, so thank you for supporting me.

"It goes further than the management staff as well; the physios, the directors, the media team, the office staff, the chairman.

"I am sorry to go because I really enjoyed turning up at Accrington every morning and I got on with absolutely everyone.

"I met some really nice people at the club and I wish the club all the very best, and I really do hope they succeed."

John Coleman added: "Harry has been a great character since he's been here and he's had a good impact.

"He's scored some really important goals for us and we wish him the best."

Everyone at the club wishes Harry all the very best for the future.
