INTERVIEW: 'Some cracking games' says Coley

Reds boss can't wait for the new campaign after fixtures released

24 June 2021

John Coleman says there are some ‘cracking’ fixtures and can’t wait for the Sky Bet League One campaign to kick off.

The Reds start season 2021/22 with a trip to Wycombe – providing the EFL don’t appeal the Independent Commission’s decision to fine Derby and not give them a points deduction.

Stanley, who finished 11th last season, will lock horns with Lancashire rivals Morecambe again, after they were promoted at Wembley, and Bolton who won automatic promotion from League Two.

“It is what it is but I know a lot about Wycombe and know Gareth Ainsworth well and he knows a lot about us so it’s a good game to start off,” said the Reds boss.

“Looking at the fixtures, there are some great games. You just look at the home games – Wigan, Bolton, Morecambe, Sunderland, Ipswich, Portsmouth and more. There are some cracking games which will all have their own special moments.

“They stand out but I think they only stand out if you win!

“On paper it is a tough start. Our first three away games are Wycombe, Crewe and MK Dons, all really tough places to go but you have to face them at some point.

“Cambridge at home is a good first game. We didn’t want a promoted team away in the early games as they tend to come into the league full of beans. They are dangerous early on.

”“Hopefully the crowds will be back which will make a big difference."
