Accrington Stanley have today completed the permanent signing of midfielder Tommy Leigh from Bognor Regis Town for an undisclosed fee.
The former labourer began his career with his hometown club Portsmouth but was released at 16 and has since played semi-professional football while working.
He has been catching the eye for the last two seasons as a goalscoring midfielder with a number of clubs chasing him but he chose the Reds to begin his pro career.
John Coleman said: "Tommy is a good lad and this will be his first experience of professional football. We've already seen that he's a good player and he gives us another option in midfield.
"He's a very skilful and tenacious player, he's got a long throw and he likes to work hard. I think he struggled with fitness last season, but hopefully he'll get over that and get used to the demands of full-time training.
"Signing players from non-league has paid off for us in the past and hopefully it will continue to pay off."
Tommy said: "I play central defensive midfielder, I get the ball and move it about, and I can also play No 10 and hopefully score a couple of goals but I have got to work hard now.
"It's a massive opportunity for me, I am nervous but I am buzzing as well."
Tommy's first interview video will be uploaded to the club's official YouTube channel later today, CLICK HERE to find out more!
The move is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
