John Coleman has been chasing striker Joel Mumbongo for a while and was glad to finally get his man on a season-long loan from Premier League Burnley.
The Reds boss calls the 22-year-old ‘his type of player’ and Mumbongo’s aim is to make an impact in League One.
Mumbongo was born in Sweden and has had an interesting path into English football.
“I started off in Sweden, played there until I was 17/18, I have been at three clubs in Sweden, and then I moved to Italy and stayed for a season.
“Then I went on trial for Burnley, it went well and have spent two seasons there so far and now I am here. It’s not the usual road but it’s working well for me.
“You just have to learn how to adapt, you have to get on with it, meet new people, new coaches and new languages. It’s hard but you get used to it.”
Mumbongo was part of Burnley’s first team squad last season and has made seven appearances, including four in the Premier League.
“It was a dream come true to make my Burnley debut against Chelsea. As a football player, that’s what you work for, for moments like that. It was really good.
“Now I am happy to be here, I feel like this is the right place at the right time for me.
“It’s a good move, to be able to play games and show people what I can do.
“I am a powerful striker, quick in behind, I do what I am good at and I am a threat.
“As a striker, that’s your job to score goals. That’s my aim everywhere and I want to make an impact.
“This is a great club and have great fans. It will be a good experience to play in front of fans and play football in League One.”
