INTERVIEW: Harry on signing a new contract

Defender feels as though the upcoming campaign will be a big one for his development

After signing a new two-year contract, Accrington Stanley defender Harry Perritt is hoping he can build on last season and push towards becoming a first team regular during the upcoming campaign.

The 20-year-old, who has already overcome two big injury setbacks, made three first team appearances last season and he feels as though the upcoming one will be a huge one for his development.

"Last year was hard through injury, but I'm really happy to get it over the line and get ready for the new season.

"A goal of mine was to make my debut, especially after it wasn't looking too good due to the injury.

"This season is a massive year for me, I'm really looking forward to getting some minutes and making a name for myself."

Perritt, who can play anywhere across the backline or on the wing, has had regular conversations with the club's management team over the summer and he is hoping he can impress them over the course of the season.

"The manager (John Coleman) and Ged (Brannan) have both told me to keep the same attitude and always work hard.

"I've got to keep doing what I'm doing as I'm doing the right things, and hopefully it's just a matter of time before I can get those games that I really want."

The Reds are currently in their third week of pre-season and the Knowsley-born defender admits that he couldn't wait to come back ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

"You're getting to meet the new signings during the first week back, so it was good to get to know all the new lads.

"There has been a lot of running and a lot of sand dunes, but it's great to be back and everyone's getting ready for the new season."

Perritt also said that he is very much looking forward to the return of supporters to the Wham Stadium.

"It'll be a massive change for me as I've never really played in front of the Accrington fans.

"I'm looking forward to it because I know how supportive they are of younger players coming through, so I'm excited to play in front of them making noise."
