UPDATE: Work begins on new stand

Major development gets go ahead on Jack Barrett HML Recycling Stand

28 January 2021

Accrington Stanley owner Andy Holt has said work will now continue on the transformation of the Wham Stadium as the club starts to look forward to the future.

Stanley got planning permission from Hyndburn Borough Council for a major development of the Jack Barrett HML Recycling Stand a few months ago, which will cost seven figures, but it has been held up due to Covid-19.

However, work will begin today on the new stand which will include a new bar and new hospitality areas which vastly improve the facilities at the Wham Stadium.

“With there now being a Covid-19 vaccine, we feel we can look forward and look to a brighter future for Accrington Stanley Football Club,” said Mr Holt.

“We have stood still during the pandemic but now is the time to look forward and get going again. We need to get the show back on the road and, while the fans already have a great stadium to come back to, we want to make it an even better experience.

“There are minor changes to the plans we put forward but these have been approved and we can’t wait to get started now.

“As for a timescale, we are looking for the majority of the work to done in ten months although it depends on the weather and other concerns which could be out of our hands.

“We know the town is already proud of the club but we want to help to build towards a better Accrington and the new stand, and the modern facilities, will be a part of attracting people to the town, once we are safely allowed spectators back in the ground.”
