John Coleman's side secure a third consecutive clean sheet

29 December 2021

Accrington Stanley secured a third consecutive clean sheet with a goalless draw away at Shrewsbury Town.

The hosts started the better of the two sides and they would have took the lead after just three minutes had Toby Savin not made an unbelievable save to deny Luke Leahy.

Having withstood the early pressure, John Coleman's men then grew into the first half and Matt Butcher had one shot kept out by Marko Marosi before a second was blocked well.

Marosi was again called into action on the stroke of half-time to deny a long-range effort at goal from Ethan Hamilton.

The Reds began the second half on top but Steve Cotterill's side did remarkably well on 66 minutes to block a header from Ross Sykes at the back post.

Shrewsbury goalkeeper Marosi then made an impressive save to prevent winger Sean McConville from grabbing his second goal in as many games.

After finding the net in Sunday's 1-0 win over Rotherham United, the Stanley captain had a great chance to clinch all three points in added time but he could only divert the ball wide of the target.

Next up for Coleman's men is an away trip to high-flying Wigan Athletic, with the Reds having secured 10 points from a possible 15 in December.
