Jack Nolan was relieved to put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Accrington Stanley after being at the club throughout pre-season.
The winger, who came through the Academy at hometown club Portsmouth, has been at Reading and Walsall, and linked up with Reds in June determined to impress.
He has grabbed a goal and an assist and hopes to be on the coach to Wycombe tomorrow morning as Stanley look ahead to their season opener at Adams Park.
“I left Walsall last season and I came up here to have a trial and it has flown by," said Nolan. "Last week the gaffer mentioned to me about signing up and here I am!
“I have been here since the start of pre-season so it’s really good to get it over the line.
"It’s a good group of lads which makes it even better and I can’t wait to kick on now and have a good season.
“The coaching staff are top drawer and they are very clear in the way they want to play."
Nolan only made four appearances for the Saddlers last season in League Two but has every confidence he has what it takes to make it in League One.
“For me, it’s looking forward to kicking the season off and taking opportunities. Last season was stop-start for me with games and now it’s about getting my head down and every opportunity, whether it’s starting or five minutes, just giving my all really.
“I like to get crosses into the box, that’s my game, and I will work hard. I am still young so it is about taking every opportunity I can to impress and help the team.
“I am a winger but can play as a wing back, it’s a role I like to play.
“There are some massive clubs in League One, Fratton Park is one I will look forward to, back at home. Thee division is probably the best it’s been, the sides that are in it and the money they are spending, so it will be tough but hopefully we can stamp our authority on it and do well.”
