DEPARTURE: Johnson joins Portsmouth

Callum leaves Reds for undisclosed fee

7 September 2020

Defender Callum Johnson has today joined League One rivals Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old first signed for Stanley on loan from Middlesbrough in August 2017, with the full-back making his move permanent just five months later.

Callum made 119 appearances for the Reds during his three-year spell, including playing a big part as the club clinched the Sky Bet League Two title during the 2017/18 season.

Manager John Coleman said: "He only had another year left on his contract and Callum thought he would be better trying to get himself sorted out this year rather than run his contract down.

"He's been a good servant to the club, he's done really well and I wish him all the best.

"I had a good chat with him last night and we both thanked each other for each other's input and I hope he does well, although not when we play them."

An interview with Callum will follow shortly.

Everyone at Accrington Stanley wishes Callum all the best.
