After signing a three-year deal earlier today, Accrington Stanley defender Michael Nottingham explained that manager John Coleman was the main reason why he wanted to become a Red.

The defender, who joins the club from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee, admitted that his mind was made up as soon as he had spoken to the manager.

"It came about very quickly but I wanted to speak to the manager as soon as I could and he sold it to me straightaway.

"He was the main reason why I wanted to get it done very quickly, so I'm really happy to be here.

"He said he's been an admirer of mine for many years and that he'd tried to sign me in the past, and he feels like I can play a massive part in taking the club forward."

Nottingham, who has spent a large part of his career in non-league football, added that he is hungry to get gametime under his belt for the Reds.

"I'm energetic, I like to work hard, I'm willing to learn, I'm really hungry and I want to win games because I'm a winner.

"I think I've got good ability and I'm versatile, so I'm hoping to show good things while I'm here."

The 31-year-old made 12 appearances on loan for Crewe Alexandra last season, and he feels as though those games can only benefit him during the current campaign.

"I went there on loan to get some gametime, I was playing games in another position I hadn't played before and I feel like it will help me going forward."

The Reds have so far recorded two wins in Sky Bet League One this season and the Saint Kitts and Nevis international is very much looking forward to getting involved in games.

"I've not seen much of the games but I've seen a few of the clubs, two wins is something to build on but I've played against Accy in the past and you know what kind of side they are.

"They don't give you anything, are a hard-working side, have got very talented players and I feel like I can definitely get involved and add to that."

Coleman has opted for a defensive three so far this season and Nottingham admitted that he is happy to play anywhere across the backline.

"I've played there before in the past so it's fine for me, I can play anywhere across the back.

"I'm going to work hard and train very hard to try and get myself in the team to start with."
