Coley on COVID-19 suspension

Manager has to keep players ready for when season resumes

John Coleman says he expected the Football League season to be suspended but knows it will be business as usual for the Stanley players in training.

Due to the coronavirus, the FA, EFL and Premier League have announced that there will be no elite football until the April 3rd.

This postponement starts with tomorrow’s trip to Portsmouth.

“To be honest, I expected it,” said the Reds boss. “It has escalated quickly over the last few days and the awareness is bigger.

“It is out of our hands and you can’t spend too much time thinking about the ‘what if’s’ as you will drive yourself mad.

“All you can do is keep going and prepare for when the season resumes, which at the moment for us is a trip to Gillingham.

“It is an unprecedented situation and, while football is shutting-up shop for three weeks, you have got to be ready to go again so we won’t be shutting-up shop in training.

“We have to make sure we are ready for whenever our next game is. It is frustrating but health is more important.”
