Saturday's win over AFC Wimbledon also saw the visit of Bob Blundell and his wife Jane to the Wham Stadium to meet Accrington Stanley midfielder Sam Finley, who had paid for the RAF veteran's breakfast in Crosby on Remembrance Day.

After Sam had paid for Bob's breakfast at Annie's Tea Rooms, the RAF veteran then thanked the midfielder for his gesture of goodwill in the Champion Newspaper.

The article attracted a lot of attention across social media and Sam then decided that he wanted to invite Bob to enjoy a Stanley game in hospitality.

Upon Bob visiting the Wham Stadium, the Commercial team organised a full itinerary with fans and local businesses to support the club throughout the day.

Bob and Jane received a warm welcome from pick up to arriving at the club for a stadium tour with Supporter Liaison Officer, Robert Houseman, before they were presented with a hamper of goodies.

The RAF veteran then got the chance to meet Sam and thank him in person, with Bob and Jane then having an enjoyable afternoon within our hospitality suite as the Reds secured a 2-1 victory.

Speaking after full-time, Bob Blundell said: "We have had a fabulous time at Accrington Stanley and would like to say thank you to everyone for making us feel welcome.

"We didn't expect anything when the club contacted us to follow up on my letter I sent to the newspaper to say thank you to the mystery person who had purchased my breakfast.

"It shows what a community club they have there with us having the opportunity to meet the assistant manager and the players, with everyone happy to take the time to speak to us both.

"I was then overwhelmed with receiving a signed match worn shirt from Sam himself during my afternoon in hospitality."

Sam Finley added: "It was a great pleasure to meet Bob and Jane in hospitality at Accrington on Saturday, and we hope that they've both had a great day out.

"The hamper of things donated to them both shows what a community club it is here."

Stanley's Commercial Manager, Daniel Bowerbank commented: "It was a pleasure to meet Bob and Jane here at the Wham Stadium on Saturday and find out more about how the story came about.

"It was a pleasant surprise for them both to be invited to the club and come for a full match day experience.

"I would like to thank all the club partners and sponsors who supported us with this event, along with lifelong fan Mick Shackleton who donated his time in collecting and dropping off them both for the day.

"I think we now have two more fans to add to the Accrington Stanley family and we look forward to welcoming them to the Wham Stadium in the future."

The club would like to thank all the below for supporting this great community event:

  • Airport Transfers - Mick Shackleton
  • Clayton Park Bakery
  • Studio.co.uk
  • Lancashire Tea
  • Bowland Brewery
  • Stitch-It
