Following a great response, there are now just two places remaining for Accrington Stanley's Ride to the Light charity cycle ride to Sunderland ahead of the fixture between the two sides on Saturday 25th April.
After the announcement was made just four days ago, five Stanley supporters have already committed to taking on the approximately 200-mile charity cycle ride.
There are now just two places remaining and should you wish to participate, then you will also be helping to raise a target of £5,000 for the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters' Trust (OASST).
The money raised for the OASST will then be spent on improving the experience for fans at the Wham Stadium.
Stanley's Ride to the Light will take place across three days and the charity cycle ride will begin on Thursday 23rd April, with further details below:
- Thursday 23rd April - Stanley to Penrith (circa 75-80 miles)
- Friday 24th April - Penrith to Hexham (circa 75-80 miles)
- Saturday 25th April - Hexham to Sunderland (40-45 miles)
The route of the ride would take the best cycleway to Penrith from the Wham Stadium and then follow Hadrian's Wall Cycle Route to Sunderland.
Those taking part will need to pay for their bed and breakfast, food and each cyclist would be asked to raise a minimum of £500 on top of their personal costs to do the ride.
There will be a service vehicle available to transport food, drinks, clothing and spares.
You do not need to be an Olympic-standard cyclist to take part, all you need is a decent bike, a helmet, cycling clothing and a big heart!
Training rides will be organised for those who need to get some extra miles in before the event.
With 10 weeks until the start of the ride Stanley's Managing Director, David Burgess stated: "We have had a tremendous response from supporters within the first week of the launch of the charity cycle ride and we are now looking to add two more team members before the end of February to step up and cycle with us from Stanley to Sunderland.
"Last season's trip to Portsmouth was a great experience and this year we are looking to make it even better by taking in the scenic route along Hadrian's Wall, arriving at the Stadium of Light for the final away game at Sunderland around lunchtime on Saturday 25th April."
