Head of Sport Lee Walsh said: 'The new funding from Sport England means we can build on our successful and long running Friday walking football session.

“It allows us make the sport more accessible to people who perhaps still work during the day or have other commitments.

“As well as the weekly sessions there will be the opportunity to represent Accrington Stanley in various events and festivals over the year for those that would like to.''

Walking football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and is great way for those over the age of 45 to stay active and continue to play the sport they love.

Craig Addison, age 57, is a regular attendee of the Friday sessions.

He said: 'Walking football provides the opportunity for players my age to carry on playing, it's an excellent way to stay fit and healthy and a great place to meet new friends. The sessions have a good atmosphere and everyone is made to feel welcome''

The new female walking football session will be the first of its kind in Hyndburn and means Accrington Stanley Community Trust now cater for female footballers from age two upwards.

“We strongly advises people to come and have a go, it doesn't matter about your previous experience or ability, the sessions are fun and inclusive,” added Lee.
