Coleman: June will be busy

20 May 2019

John Coleman admits his phone hasn't stopped ringing and he expects to start doing business for the 2019/20 season in June.

The Reds boss wants a squad of around 20 for next season - and there are 13 senior players currently signed up.

Ben Richards-Everton was offered a deal at the Wham Stadium but has chosen to go to League Two side Bradford City.

Winger Piero Mingoia returns after a six-month loan spell at League Two Morecambe hoping to break into the first team at Stanley for the new campaign.

"I understand Ben's reasons for wanting to move on, he didn't get a lot of first team football last season and we wish him well at Bradford," said Coleman.

"Piero did well at Morecambe and we have kept an eye on him while he was there and I know Morecambe were delighted with him.

"He, along with Erico Sousa, were unlucky due to the performances of Sean McConville and Jordan Clark but both will be with us for next season.

"I have fielded quite a few calls while I have been on holiday as you have to keep in the loop.

"I have a couple of irons in the fire and am exploring all options. I am looking at every position and I think things will start moving in June. I have got to get our loans and permanent deals right so it can't be rushed."

Stanley have arranged two pre-season friendlies so far, including one at the Globe Arena on July 27th.

"I think that will be a good game, it will be the type of game we need heading into the new season as it will be the style of football we will face in League One, rather than playing a Premier League or Championship team. It's a good one for our fans as well."

Stanley will have a development squad (Under 23s) next season and are currently in the process of appointing a coach for that.

The players will return to training in late June.
