Sykes signs new deal

11 March 2019

Defender Ross Sykes has signed a new deal which will  keep him at Accrington Stanley until at least 2022.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract today as he recovers from a groin injury - there is also a one-year option on the deal.

Sykes is hoping he will be back in training next Monday and back in contention for the trip to Burton Albion a week on Saturday.

"I am delighted to sign a new deal," said the Burnley-born centre half. "It's a reward for the hard work I have put in, it offers me security for the future and I am happy to have been playing regularly this season.

"Last season, I didn't play a game but this season, after working hard in the summer, I have played a number of league and cup games and I feel I have done well.

"It's brilliant to play alongside Mark Hughes, who talks to me all the time and shares his experience.

"This season is a big season for me and I can't wait to be back playing again."

Sykes came to the Wham Stadium when he was 13, after being released from Burnley's Academy. He has come through the ranks and is enjoying his best season so far.
