Not giving up: Kee

4 March 2019

Billy Kee has not given up on Stanley challenging for the Play-Offs but knows it's vital they kick start their season, starting tomorrow night against Blackpool in the Lancashire derby.

The striker has got 12 goals this season but the Reds, after a good start to their first League One campaign, have dropped down to 14th place and are 14 points outside the top six with games in hand.

They take on the Seasiders at the Wham Stadium after the original game was called off with Blackpool in 10th place – seven points ahead of the Reds.

“We want to finish as high as we can,” said the 28-year-old. “We have played well in patches after a good start.

“Now we have got to put in good performances until the end of the season and our aim is still the Play-Offs.

“We know, after last season, that we can go on a run of wins and you never know where it will take you.

“We haven't had consistency this season, it is a higher level and we are adjusting to it.

“Teams are canny in this league, they go 1-0 up and they know how to see the game out – a bit like we did in League Two last season.

“It's down to us as players to sort it out, we have got to look at ourselves and be the canny team.

“We go into every game expecting to win but, as a striker, chances are at a premium in this league. The strikers are better, they get their once chance and take it.

“We have got to work hard together to create more chances. I put pressure on myself to try and score goals and we are determined to put it right tomorrow night after losing on Saturday.

“Blackpool are a good side but we like playing under the lights, we like derbies and hopefully we can bounce back.”
