David gets on his bike for Mind!

4 March 2019

The #StanleyFamily are stepping up to support the EFL's official charity partner Mind with a sponsored bike ride.

Accrington Stanley's Managing Director, David Burgess, will be joined by Clayton End stand sponsor, William Dyer, and four other supporters on a 365-mile journey from the Wham Stadium to Portsmouth's Fratton Park to raise money for the mental health charity.

Starting on Wednesday 1 May and set to finish on Saturday 4 May, the charity fundraising event will coincide with the final game of the EFL League One season.

The money raised will be donated to Mind to help deliver life-changing national and local support as part of its two-year 'On Your Side' partnership with the EFL. All funds raised will go towards Mind's Infoline and its physical activity programme 'Get Set to Go'.

Burgess said: “It was important for us to support a charity that benefits local people with their services, which this one absolutely does, but they go above and beyond that with over 150 centres nationwide. The impact Mind has on those who use their services is incredible – with such accessible support for those who need it.

"We are looking forward to the challenge and are really hoping that people get behind us with fundraising.”

Hayley Jarvis, Head of Physical Activity for Mind, commented: “We are so grateful that Stanley and co have chosen to support Mind with their bike ride. Not only is it a fantastic challenge to take on, but every penny raised from it will go towards our vital work as part of Mind's On Your Side partnership with the EFL to make sure that everyone, no matter who they support, gets support themselves.

"We're sure they will do Stanley proud and everyone at Mind is wishing them all the best of luck!”

The group have just four months to prepare for the gruelling task but are determined to see it through to completion.

William Dyer, Managing Director of Willian Dyer Ltd., sponsors of Stanley's Clayton End, added: “With 365 miles to cover we know there'll be obstacles to overcome so we will do what we can over the coming months to prepare. It won't be an easy task but it will absolutely be worth it.”

Starting at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium on Wednesday 1 May, the super six will ride 100 miles each day, covering 65 miles on the final day. Along the way they will stay in bed and breakfasts in Staffordshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire.
