Stanley sign Portuguese winger

23 July 2019

Accrington Stanley have today made their seventh signing of the summer transfer window with the arrival of winger Wilson Carvalho on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old, who was born in Lisbon, has signed a one-year contract with the option of a further year ahead of the 2019/20 Sky Bet League One season, subject to approval from the FA and the EFL.

Carvalho has previously been with Port Vale and Stevenage, and it was at Vale where he first met Stanley's assistant manager Jimmy Bell, who was the club's Development squad coach.

The winger has featured multiple times for Stanley so far in pre-season, but it was his performance against Olympique de Marseille that showed the Accrington fans what he's all about.

Carvalho's pace and ability to beat his man got the fans talking on Twitter, and the Portuguese winger displayed a similar performance in last night's draw with Warrington Town.

Stanley manager John Coleman said: "Wilson has been on trial with us in pre-season and we have been impressed by him.

"We needed to boost our attacking choices and Wilson will provide another option for us."

Carvalho is Stanley's seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
