Dan happy with first EFL goal

24 February 2019

Dan Barlaser celebrated his first EFL goal – and hopes there is more to come.

The Newcastle loan midfielder had scored for Stanley in the Checkatrade Trophy and the FA Cup this season.

And he celebrated the first league goal of his career with a 20-yard rocket on 60 minutes to level the scores as it finished 1-1 with Southend yesterday.

“It was an important time of the game as we were on top but we were 1-0 down," said the 22-year-old.

“It was a very good goal, I have had chances before and probably should have scored before this so it's been a long time coming.

“I was running as soon as I hit it as I knew it was going in, the keeper was never saving it."

Southend's opener came following a defensive mix-up on 20 minutes which resulted in Stephen Humphrys getting his head to a long ball forward and scoring, but colliding with keeper Jonny Maxted which saw them both leave the pitch soon after.

“We are disappointed with the goal we conceded as it was a bit of a mix-up in the back four but we will learn from that and we had chances to win the game anyway," continued Barlaser.

“We are disappointed we didn't win but happy we have come from behind and got a point.

“That's three games unbeaten after the disappointing run we had been on.

“The draw against Sunderland, a very good win against Oxford and just missing out on a win against Southend means it's quite positive.

“Hopefully there are many more goals to come from me. The gaffer said we needed more goals from midfield, I get into the positions on the edge of the box so hopefully I can get in the areas more and I can finish them off like I did yesterday.”
