Despite a Colby Bishop penalty, Accrington Stanley exited this season’s Carabao Cup in the First Round following a 3-1 defeat at the Wham Stadium to Jack Ross’ Sunderland side.
Summer signings Ben Barclay and Courtney Baker-Richardson both made their debuts for the club, with Bishop grabbing his first competitive goal for Stanley to cancel out Marc McNulty’s first half opener.
However, late goals from Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke were enough to secure the victory for The Black Cats.
