Wins will come: Sean

17 September 2018

Goal hero Sean McConville believes someone will get a hiding from Stanley in the near future as they look to turn draws into wins.

The Reds are unbeaten in seven League One games but have drawn their last four games 1-1, including Saturday's point at Fleetwood.

Stanley had 15 shots – seven on target – at Highbury but McConville had to wait until the 69th minute to level Cian Bolger's first half opener as they found Fleetwood 'keeper Alex Cairns in top form.

“That's the best we have played this season,” said the winger. “No disrespect to Fleetwood, but if we had come off winning that game 6-2 or 6-1 there would be no arguments with the amount of chances we created in the first and second half. We should be winning that game.

“Their 'keeper has got Man of the Match and deservedly so, he has made some great saves, but we have just got to keep battling away and creating chances and eventually they will go in and I know that there will be a team who will be on the end of a hiding from us.

“We are playing great football, it's enjoyable to play in and I am sure for the fans it's enjoyable to watch but we have to turn these draws into wins.”

McConville scored his third goal of the campaign from Nick Anderton's long throw as Stanley remain in tenth place in the League One table – with just one defeat so far.

“I was delighted with the goal as it was a left footer which I am happy about as I score very few of those.

“It was nice, it just fell to me and I hit it across the keeper with my left foot.

“I was happy for it to go in to get a point for the lads but even the most ardent Fleetwood fan would say we were the better team and we deserved the win.

“As a group at half-time, we were disappointed to concede off a set-play, that's not good enough, but all the lads were geeing each other up, saying we are the better team, don't let your heads drop and it will come and it did in the end and that's what's been happening.

“But we need to start turning the one point into three and who knows where we can go?

“If we weren't creating the chances we would be worried but we are creating chance after chance after chance and we have to keep striving to be better, working hard and I am sure things will start turning for us.”
