Kee: We're finding our feet

11 September 2018

Billy Kee knows he and Accrington Stanley are still finding their feet in League One – but says it's been a decent start with a six game unbeaten run.

The striker has scored three goals this season, including with two penalties, as the Reds sit in tenth place after seven games.

Stanley have had to come from behind in the last five games with late goals rescuing points for them, including Kee's 84th minute penalty against his former club Burton on Saturday.

“We're still trying to find our feet in League One and every game is difficult,” said Kee. “I've not been playing the best and I still need to get better.

“It's nice to get the penalty but the lads are showing great spirit like we did last year. We're staying in there.

“I know we're scoring late but sooner or later things will change and our chances will go in and we'll go and win by three or four.

“We've just got to stick at it and all work hard together as a unit and everything will be alright. We'll win a lot more than we lose this year.

“We can compete against these teams and we've shown it. I know Burton Albion have come up through the leagues with us but they were in the Championship last year and their wage bill is probably around five times as much as ours.”

Kee suffered a foot injury in pre-season which he carried into the season and admits he hasn't hit top form yet because of it.

“It's set me back about four weeks. I had it all pre-season and I had injections and I was able to run around again. Hopefully I can do a lot more work with Jimmy (Bell) and John Doolan and get a bit fitter and sharper and I'll be firing again.

“As a team, we're not far off where we want to be. Sooner or later things we'll change and we'll win games. We know we need to improve our home form and we will.”
