Maxted happy to see Chappy

16 October 2018

Goalkeeper Jonny Maxted is looking forward to meeting up with former Reds stopper Aaron Chapman - but only after the game at Peterborough on Saturday.

Chapman joined Peterborough in the summer after winning the League Two title with Stanley, as well as the Golden Glove award for keeping 18 clean sheets last season.

Maxted has seen his game time limited with the arrival of Connor Ripley on loan from Middlesbrough, but says he's enjoying his football after being recalled to the starting line-up following Ripley's 16th minute sending off against Shrewsbury.

"It's difficult coming on so early in a game," said Maxted. "You're not fully prepared for it as you don't really think that 16 minutes into a game anything is going to happen, but I'm finding the pace and getting back into it.

"It's always difficult when you're not playing to come back in and try and do well, especially when you haven't played many games.

"I think I've done well but there's always room for improvement, and I think I'm only going to get better by playing games and keep doing what I'm doing."

Saturday's hosts are the top scorers in League One, having netted 30 times in 13 games this season, but it is the man at the opposite end of the pitch that will be most familiar to Stanley fans.

Chapman has made 15 appearances between the sticks for Peterborough in all competitions this season, with the Posh sitting second in the League One table.

"Chappy is doing well - he got in Team of the Week at the weekend," said Maxted.

"He's a great guy and I had a lot of fun with him last year so it's going to be good seeing him again. I've messaged him a few times and try and keep in touch, but we're obviously in different circumstances.

"Saturday will be a test for us to show the league what we can do - they're going to be tough.

"They're well regimented but if you look at us, we're the same. We know what we're doing and everyone's in it together. Everyone knows what each others jobs are and, if they're not doing it, they're going to get told.

"It'll be a case of focusing on the game first and then chatting with Chappy afterwards."
