'Feisty' encounter with Posh: Bell

19 October 2018

Jimmy Bell admits he expects it to be a 'feisty' encounter with Peterborough boss Steve Evans tomorrow.

The two management teams have locked horns a number of times over the years when Evans was in charge of Boston, Crawley, Rotherham and Mansfield.

Now the two clash at second-placed Posh, with Stanley in sixth spot, and Bell expects entertainment on the touch-line as well as the pitch.

"We have come up against Steve Evans and Paul Raynor a number of times over the last ten years and it's always feisty," smiled Bell.

"His team also play that way and it's a massive challenge for us and one we are relishing.

"Steve and Paul are winners so they will be up for it like we are so we expect a scrap on the touchlines, within the rules of the game!

"We have analysed their strengths and weaknesses, we know the way they play, and we will try to come up with a formula to beat them."

Another familiar face is goalkeeper Aaron Chapman who left Stanley last summer after helping them lift the title and winning the Golden Glove with 18 clean sheets.

"Chappy was a great servant last season, he is a great character and won the Golden Glove. We still text each other and he left on good terms. He is a smashing keeper, he isn't perfect and he knows that, and a smashing lad and it will be good to see him."

One of Stanley's last trips to London Road was January 2008 when the Reds lost 8-2 - a day to forget.

"The game should never have been played as there was water all over the pitch," said Bell. "Saying that it wasn't the reason we lost.

"We were 4-0 down at half-time and we got it back to 4-2 and then Roscoe D'Sane missed a good chance. We went three at the back thinking we could get back into it and I think they scored four in the last 10 minutes. We couldn't blame the pitch for that! Let's hope there isn't a repeat although I do expect goals."
